According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather across various regions of the country is expected to remain unstable over the next five days. Many states are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and in some areas, heavy rainfall. The region-wise forecast is as follows:
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya from May 16 to May 20. A warning for very heavy rainfall has been issued for Assam and Meghalaya from May 16 to May 19.
Light to moderate rainfall is also likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next five days. These regions may also experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Bihar is expected to witness squalls with wind speeds of 50–60 km/h on May 17 and 18, prompting the need for caution.
Weather conditions in North India are also expected to be unstable. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds is likely in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh between May 18 and May 21.
Punjab and Haryana may experience similar weather on May 16 and again from May 19 to 21. Additionally, dust storms with wind speeds of 25–35 km/h are expected over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and western Rajasthan from May 16 to 18. Temperatures in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat may rise by 2–4°C during this period.
