Showers All Around, But When Will Monsoon Hit Delhi? Here's What IMD Says

With the southwest monsoon advancing steadily across much of the country, several states in North and West India are witnessing intermittent showers and pleasant weather. However, the national capital, Delhi, continues to wait for the arrival of the monsoon, making it the only major region yet to receive rainfall so far this season.

When Will It Rain in Delhi?

According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is expected to reach Delhi-NCR within the next 36 hours. The department anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three days, which could finally bring relief from the ongoing heat and humidity. Cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Meerut, and Bahadurgarh are also likely to see significant rainfall in the coming days.

Neighbouring States Soak in Monsoon Showers:

While Delhi remains dry, monsoon showers have already lashed neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. On Tuesday, the southwest monsoon made its presence felt in parts of Chandigarh and Haryana. The IMD has indicated that conditions remain favourable for further progression of the monsoon in the remaining areas of Punjab and Haryana.
Rain activity is expected to intensify in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between June 25 and June 30. The maximum temperatures across these regions remained below normal on Tuesday, with Chandigarh recording a high of 34.1°C—relatively cooler for this time of year.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Life in Gujarat:

Gujarat has been experiencing relentless monsoon rainfall over the past two days. Several districts reported waterlogging, disrupting daily life and prompting authorities to stay on alert. The IMD has issued warnings for continued heavy rainfall in the state over the next few days.

Hills Witness Monsoon Surge: Meanwhile, the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are also in the grip of active monsoon conditions. Rainfall has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures in higher altitudes, adding a refreshing chill to the air. Tourist destinations in these states are experiencing pleasant weather, bringing relief from the earlier spell of heat.

While most of the country is now under the monsoon’s influence, Delhi's wait for seasonal rain may soon be over. If forecasts hold true, the capital and surrounding areas could see a refreshing change in the weather within the next 36 hours.
