The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather advisory for the coming days, highlighting a sharp drop in minimum temperatures, cold wave conditions, and dense fog across several regions. This update is crucial for farmers to plan irrigation, crop nutrition, and harvesting activities efficiently.

Sharp Fall in Temperatures Across North India:

According to IMD, the minimum temperature over the plains of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi weather, West Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan is likely to drop by up to 2°C over the next two days. Following this, a gradual rise of 2–4°C is expected over the subsequent five days.

Stable Conditions in Central India:

Central India particularly Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha minimum temperatures will remain steady for the next two days. A slight increase of 2–3°C may occur during the following five days.
These temperature changes could have a mild impact on Rabi crops, especially in areas with clear skies and dry winds.

Mild Temperature Drop in Maharashtra & Southern States:

Maharashtra (Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra), minimum temperatures may fall by 2–3°C over the next three days before stabilizing again.
Meanwhile, southern states such as Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to see no significant change in minimum temperatures over the next week.

Cold Wave Warning for Multiple States:

Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail between 10–12 December in the following regions:

  1. Punjab
  2. West Madhya Pradesh
  3. Chhattisgarh
  4. Odisha
  5. Madhya Maharashtra
  6. Telangana
  7. Vidarbha (10 December)
  8. Haryana & Marathwada (11–12 December)

Farmers are advised to take precautionary measures to protect sensitive crops from frost.

Dense Fog Alert:

Dense fog is likely during morning hours between 10–13 December across:

  2. East Uttar Pradesh
  3. Odisha

Fog may disrupt transport and visibility, so farmers should plan market travel with caution. Additionally, due to increased nighttime cooling, light irrigation and frost-prevention practices are recommended for vulnerable crops.
