According to the final agricultural production estimates for 2024–25 released by the Ministry of Agriculture, India has recorded an impressive 8% rise in foodgrain output. Total foodgrain production has increased from 332.30 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 357.73 million tonnes in 2024–25.
Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed gratitude to the nation’s farmers for achieving this historic milestone. He highlighted that India has witnessed an extraordinary increase of 106 million tonnes in foodgrain production over the past decade. The country’s output has risen from 251.54 million tonnes in 2015–16 to 357.73 million tonnes today, reflecting the rapid progress of the agricultural sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The government’s ongoing Oilseed Mission has delivered encouraging results. Oilseed output increased from 39.669 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 42.989 million tonnes in 2024–25.

‘Pulses Self-Reliance Mission’ to Strengthen Production: Following the release of the final estimates, the Agriculture Minister reviewed future strategies with department officials. He stated that the ‘Pulses Self-Reliance Mission,’ launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, will significantly accelerate pulse production in the coming years. He added that assured MSP procurement of tur, urad, chana, and moong has benefitted a large number of farmers.
