A three-day ‘Krishi Mahakumbh’ scheduled from April 11 to 13 in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, is set to emerge as a major platform for farmers to explore diversified income opportunities. The event aims to go beyond traditional agriculture by integrating allied sectors such as dairy, poultry, fisheries, and goat rearing creating multiple and sustainable income streams for farmers.
According to Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the national-level event will bring the entire agricultural value chain—from “seed to market”—under one roof. Hosted at the Dussehra Ground in Raisen, the fair will feature live demonstrations, technical sessions, training programs, and business meetings. It will also facilitate direct interaction between scientists, agri-startups, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and rural entrepreneurs.
The event will feature an extensive livestock exhibition organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy. Improved cattle breeds such as Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, and Malvi will be displayed. Farmers will also get exposure to high-value goat breeds like Jamunapari, Barbari, Sirohi, Beetal, and Sojat, along with specialty poultry breeds such as Kadaknath. These models will help farmers understand pathways to access premium markets.
Mobile veterinary units, animal health camps, vaccination drives, and expert guidance on nutrition, breeding, and genetic improvement will be provided. This will enable small and marginal farmers to adopt cost-effective methods to enhance productivity. The event will also promote dairy cooperatives, fodder management, gobar-based energy solutions, and organic farming practices.
Modern fisheries models including biofloc systems, Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), aquaponics, ornamental fish farming, and pearl culture will be showcased by the Fisheries Department and the National Fisheries Development Board. These technologies demonstrate how farmers can generate high income even with limited water and space.
Farmers will also receive information on key schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, National Fisheries Development Programme, and Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund, enabling them to integrate water-based enterprises with agriculture for year-round income.
More than 50 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) will participate in the marketing segment, showcasing and selling value-added products. These include GI-tagged Chinnor rice, Sharbati wheat, millets like kodo and kutki, pulses, gram flour, soy products, turmeric, garlic, moringa powder, mustard and flaxseed oil, honey, pickles, jaggery, and traditional snacks. This platform is expected to enhance national visibility and improve price realization for local products.
An FPO conference on April 12 will focus on branding, packaging, cold chain, logistics, and e-commerce, helping small farmer groups connect with modern markets.
Strong Participation of Rural Women:
The event will witness active participation from ‘Krishi Sakhis’, ‘Aajeevika Didis’, ‘Drone Didis’, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). They will showcase successful enterprise models such as organic products, processed foods, multi-layer farming, nurseries, drone services, farm machinery banks, and rural service innovations. This initiative is expected to strengthen women-led entrepreneurship and boost the rural economy.
New Opportunities for Rural Youth:
The Krishi Mahakumbh will also offer free training sessions, information on government schemes, agri-startup presentations, and direct interaction with scientists. These efforts aim not only to modernize agriculture but also to create new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for rural youth.
