Union Agriculture Minister Reviews Chhattisgarh Agriculture Progress, Approves PSS for Rabi 2025–26

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, met Chhattisgarh Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam at his residence at 12, Safdarjung Road, New Delhi. During the meeting, the Union Minister reviewed the progress of agricultural activities and ongoing schemes in Chhattisgarh.

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan appreciated the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government in the agriculture sector and urged the state to implement central government agriculture and farmer welfare schemes more effectively and at a faster pace, so that farmers can derive maximum benefits. The Union Minister also took stock of the preparations for the Rabi crop season 2025–26 and the status of the Price Support Scheme (PSS).

Approval of PSS Proposals for Rabi 2025–26:

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the Price Support Scheme (PSS) proposals submitted by the Chhattisgarh government for the Rabi season 2025–26. The central government has approved PSS proposals for chana (gram), masoor (lentil), and mustard crops. The approval has been granted for a 90-day period in accordance with the guidelines of the PM-AASHA scheme, ensuring procurement of farmers’ produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Rabi 2025–26: Key Details (Chhattisgarh):

Crop – Chana (Gram):

1. Sown area: 2,48,700 hectares
2. Productivity: 1,018 kg/hectare
3. Expected production: 2,53,300 metric tonnes

Crop – Masoor (Lentil):

2. Productivity: 398 kg/hectare
3. Expected production: 5,360 metric tonnes
4. Approved procurement quantity: 5,360 metric tonnes (100%)
5. MSP 2025–26: ₹70,000 per metric tonne
6. MSP value: ₹37.52 crore

Crop – Mustard:

1. Sown area: 27,370 hectares
2. Productivity: 441 kg/hectare
3. Expected production: 12,080 metric tonnes
4. Approved procurement quantity: 3,020 metric tonnes (25%)
5. MSP 2025–26: ₹62,000 per metric tonne
6. MSP value: ₹18.72 crore

PoS-Based Procurement Preparations Completed: The Chhattisgarh government has almost completed preparations for Point of Sale (PoS)-based procurement. Biometric devices have been successfully tested at 222 procurement centers across the state. Necessary actions have also been completed in line with Government of India letters dated 18 September 2025 and 11 November 2025.
These decisions are expected to assure Chhattisgarh farmers of MSP-backed crop procurement during the Rabi season 2025–26 and give fresh momentum to agricultural growth in the state.
