Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses in New Delhi. These two landmark initiatives aim to promote sustainable and inclusive growth in agriculture and allied sectors across India.
Addressing the event, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Panchayati Raj Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) said, “The PM-Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will bring a transformative change in India’s agrarian districts. Through convergence, innovation, and inclusion, this initiative will empower the nation’s agricultural ecosystem.”
During the event, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 16 major projects worth ₹947 crores in the animal husbandry sector and laid the foundation stone for one major project worth ₹219 crores.
Addition, he laid the foundation stone for seven new projects worth ₹572 crores and inaugurated nine projects worth ₹121 crores in the fisheries sector.
Total, projects worth ₹1,859 crores were launched a significant step towards strengthening the rural economy.
The Union Minister highlighted that the establishment of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 2019 provided a dedicated policy framework that accelerated the growth of these sectors. Today, these sectors support over 10 crore livelihoods, with more than 70% women participation — a true reflection of rural women’s empowerment.
He further noted that schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) have created a modern network of fishing harbours, hatcheries, feed mills, and cold chains across the country.
As a result, India now ranks second globally in fish production, with output rising from 9.6 million tonnes in 2013–14 to 19.5 million tonnes in 2024–25, marking a 104% increase.
At the event, 16 major fisheries projects worth ₹693 crores were inaugurated to further enhance productivity, exports, and employment opportunities.
Shri Singh highlighted that India has achieved a 63% increase in milk production, rising from 146 million tonnes in 2014–15 to 239 million tonnes in 2024–25, making the country the largest milk producer in the world. The productivity of cattle and buffaloes has grown by over 25%, the fastest rate globally.
The area of livestock health, more than 125 crore free vaccine doses have been administered under nationwide drives against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, and PPR. Nine states are rapidly progressing towards FMD-free status, which is expected to further boost India’s milk exports.
Strengthening the Vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat:
The Union Minister emphasized that the PM-DDKY reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of increasing farmers’ income, strengthening the rural economy, and positioning the fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairy sectors as key pillars of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the goal of “Rural Prosperity to National Prosperity,” focusing on technology-led growth, better livelihoods, and nutritional security for every citizen.
