Empowering Women from Bhopal: PM Modi Addresses Women Empowerment Conclave

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Women Empowerment Conclave held in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, on the auspicious occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several developmental projects in Bhopal.

Women Power: The Backbone of a Self-Reliant India
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the government is driving development through the lens of women-led growth. He stated that the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme is empowering rural women and boosting their incomes. He proudly shared that a large number of women scientists are now actively contributing to India’s space missions.
Referring to ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Prime Minister called it a symbol of the courage and determination of India’s women. He also revealed that of the 4 crore houses built under various government schemes, a significant majority are registered in women’s names – making millions of women first-time property owners.

Agriculture, Cotton, and Cottage Industries Get New Identity
PM Modi praised Devi Ahilyabai Holkar for launching initiatives that supported agriculture and employment, especially for the poor and marginalized. She promoted the cultivation of cotton and spices, constructed ponds for water conservation, and encouraged cottage industries based on handicrafts and forest products.
He noted her significant contribution to the development of Maheshwari sarees, highlighting how she invited weaver families from Junagadh, Gujarat, to Maheshwar and laid the foundation for this industry.

Ayushman Bharat: A Big Step in Women’s Healthcare
The Prime Minister addressed how women earlier hesitated to visit hospitals during pregnancy due to financial constraints. Today, under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, they are entitled to free treatment of up to ₹5 lakh annually.

He emphasized that along with health and education, economic self-reliance is key to women’s empowerment. “When women have their own income, it boosts both their self-esteem and their role in decision-making,” he said.

Financial Empowerment Through Jan Dhan, Mudra, and SHGs
PM Modi pointed out that before 2014, over 30 crore women did not have bank accounts. Through the Jan Dhan Yojana, millions of women were brought into the banking system, allowing them to directly receive benefits from government schemes.

He added that under the Mudra Yojana, collateral-free loans have enabled lakhs of women to start their own businesses — with over 75% of beneficiaries being women.
Furthermore, 10 crore women are now associated with Self Help Groups (SHGs), generating new income opportunities. The government, he said, is working towards making 3 crore women “Lakhpati Didis”, and 1.5 crore women have already achieved this milestone.
