Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a high-level meeting in New Delhi on September 1 to address farmers’ grievances. During the meeting, he directed officials to establish an integrated, dedicated portal for complaints, suggestions, and support, ensuring quick and effective resolution of farmers’ issues.
Shri Chouhan emphasized that he will personally review farmers’ complaints on a regular basis to guarantee timely redressal. He made it clear that any delay in addressing grievances will not be tolerated, urging officials to work with complete transparency, accountability, and sensitivity.
It was revealed in the meeting that most farmer complaints are linked to adulterated fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides. Taking a tough stand, the Minister instructed immediate resolution of such cases and stringent action against the offenders. He underlined that protecting farmers from fraudulent practices is the government’s top priority, requiring coordinated action by both central and state agencies.
Expressing concern over the sale of illegal biostimulants, Shri Chouhan ordered that only certified and officially notified biostimulants be permitted in the market. He further directed that farmers be made aware of the approved list through social media and other communication channels.
The meeting also reviewed complaints related to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The Minister instructed officials to resolve each case effectively and maintain direct communication with farmers to ensure their satisfaction.
Commitment to ‘Swadeshi’: During the meeting, Agriculture Ministry officials pledged to adopt indigenous products to the maximum extent, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Swadeshi.’ Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, along with senior officials, took a pledge to incorporate indigenous products into their daily lives wherever possible.
