PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Farmers Can Now Insure Their Crops till 31st July

The registration process for crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif crops is now open. Farmers can enrol for crop insurance until 31st July 2025. Under this scheme, farmers growing pulses and oilseeds will need to pay only 2% of the premium, while the remaining amount will be covered by the Central and State Governments.

What is PM Fasal Bima Yojana?

Launched by the Government of India, PMFBY is a flagship scheme aimed at safeguarding farmers against crop loss due to natural calamities, pests, or diseases. With a minimal premium, it offers financial protection and peace of mind to farmers across the country.

Who is eligible for crop insurance?

All cultivators and sharecroppers growing notified crops in notified areas are eligible. The scheme is now voluntary, meaning farmers can opt for it as per their choice.

  1. Loanee Farmers (those who have taken short-term agricultural loans): Insurance is automatically done through the concerned bank.
  2. Non-Loanee Farmers: They can register for crop insurance on their own.

Where and How to Register?

Non-loanee farmers can register through the following channels by 31st July:

  1. Cooperative Societies
  2. Common Service Centres (CSC) at Gram Panchayat
  3. All district-level banks
  4. Crop Insurance Representatives
  5. Crop Insurance Portal

Documents Required for Registration:

  1. Copy of Land Ownership Document / B-1 Form
  2. Aadhaar Card
  3. Copy of Bank Passbook
  4. 4Sowing Certificate (self-attested or verified by Patwari/Agricultural Officer/Sarpanch)
  5. Mobile Number

Important Advisory for Farmers: Mr. U.P. Bagri, Deputy Director, Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development, has urged all farmers to get their crops insured to protect against unexpected losses due to natural disasters. Only the notified crops grown in notified areas will be eligible for insurance coverage. For more information, farmers can call the helpline number 14447, or contact their nearest agriculture officer, bank branch, or CSC center.
