The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has been officially released. On this occasion, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressed thousands of farmers at a grand event held in Patna. The event also saw the presence of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sinha, Cooperation Minister Shri Prem Kumar, and other dignitaries.
PM-KISAN scheme, over ₹3.77 lakh crore has been directly transferred to farmers' bank accounts across the country through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. During this latest installment, more than ₹20,000 crore was deposited directly into the accounts of millions of farmers, providing them with immediate financial relief.
Highlighting Bihar’s significant contribution to agriculture, Shri Chouhan stated that the state is the leading producer of makhana (fox nuts) in India. He praised Bihar’s agricultural heritage and knowledge systems, recalling that this is the land where Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Champaran Satyagraha, which gave new direction to India’s freedom movement.
Union Minister emphasized initiatives like the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Yojana, aimed at increasing per hectare agricultural productivity. He mentioned the adoption of scientific methods to boost yields, especially in low-productivity regions.
Shri Chouhan assured farmers that the government is committed to ensuring timely and adequate availability of fertilizers and pesticides. He also reiterated the government’s promise to provide compensation under various schemes for crop loss caused by natural disasters.
MSP Procurement with 50% Profit Margin on Cost:
He noted that crop procurement is now carried out at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), which includes a 50% profit margin over the cost of production. This reflects the government's farmer-centric policies and commitment to improving their income.
DBT Ensures Transparency and Direct Benefit:
Shri Chouhan underlined that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, farmers’ welfare is the government's top priority. He stressed that every rupee of government support now reaches the farmers directly through DBT. “Earlier, even one rupee sent by the government would not fully reach the farmer. Today, the full benefit goes directly into their bank accounts,” he said.
