Major boost to rural housing in Assam, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan virtually participated in the Grihapravesh (housewarming) ceremony of 55,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) on May 17 from Guwahati. Minister Shri Chouhan announced sanctioning of additional 3.76 lakh houses under PMAY-G for the current financial year, reinforcing the Centre's commitment to strengthen rural infrastructure and uplift marginalized communities.
Congratulating the Assam government on the successful completion of 20 lakh houses under PMAY-G, Shri Chouhan expressed confidence that such initiatives would continue to improve the living standards of rural populations. He also extended his best wishes to all new homeowners.
A highlight of the event was the launch of the ‘Lakhimi Mistri’ initiative—a new program under PMAY-G aimed at empowering rural women by training them in masonry work. This skill development initiative seeks to provide women with sustainable employment opportunities in the construction sector. To mark the launch, safety kits were distributed to five women who will undergo training under the program.
Shri Chouhan also inaugurated 21 Knowledge Centres virtually across various districts of Assam. Developed under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), these centres aim to support rural agricultural development by providing farmers with timely access to knowledge, tools, and resources.
State Leadership Commits to Inclusive Growth: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who attended the event in person, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Central Government for its continued support. He reiterated the state’s dedication to fostering inclusive growth by empowering farmers, women, and rural communities through sustainable agricultural and development initiatives. Also present on the occasion were Assam’s Agriculture Minister Shri Atul Bora and Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Shri Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
