Farmers, here’s a golden opportunity to boost your farm income. The Bihar Government has launched the Papaya Development Scheme 2025–26, under which eligible farmers will receive up to 60% subsidy (₹45,000 per hectare) directly into their bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

The scheme aims to promote papaya cultivation in 22 districts of the state and double farmers’ income. By applying on time, farmers can benefit from financial support and modern horticulture practices, without any middlemen involved.

The scheme will be implemented in the following districts:

Bhojpur, Buxar, Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Katihar, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, West Champaran, Patna, East Champaran, Purnia, Saharsa, Samastipur, Madhubani, and Vaishali.

Land & Benefit Limits:

  1. Minimum land required: 0.25 acre (0.1 ha)
  2. Maximum land eligible: 5 acres (2 ha) per farmer

Subsidy Details and Unit Cost

  • Unit cost for papaya cultivation: ₹75,000 per hectare
  • Plant spacing: 2×2 meters (approx. 2,500 plants per hectare)
  • Subsidy structure:

    • 40% from the Central Government

    • 20% top-up from the State Government

    • Total Subsidy: 60% = ₹45,000 per hectare

  • Payment in two installments:

    • First installment: 60% of subsidy (₹27,000/ha)

    • Remaining amount: Released later based on specific conditions

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must have valid land ownership documents.
  2. Accepted documents include a revenue receipt, online updated receipt, or genealogy record (Vanshavali) issued within the last two years.
  3. Non-landowners (non-raiyat) can apply with a formal lease agreement.
  4. If the applicant’s name is not clearly mentioned in ownership or revenue documents, genealogy proof must be attached.
  5. A lease agreement format is available on the scheme website for download.

Women’s Participation: The scheme aims to ensure 30% participation of women farmers every year during beneficiary selection.

Subsidy Payment Process:

The subsidy amount will be directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts through the SNA SPARSH portal under the DBT program, ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.

Step-by-Step Guide to Apply Online:

  1. Visit the Official Website: Go to the Bihar Horticulture Department’s website.
  2. Select ‘Scheme’ Section: Click on the “Scheme (Yojana)” tab on the homepage.
  3. Open Fruit Related Schemes: Select the “Fruit Related Scheme” link.
  4. Choose Papaya Development Scheme (MIDH): From the list of schemes, select “Papaya Development Scheme.”
  5. Click ‘Online Application’: This will take you to the application page.
  6. Farmer Registration/Login:
  • New users must complete New Registration.
  • Registered users can log in directly and submit their application.
