Expert Tips for Farmers:
- Consider selling in markets offering higher prices: The highest prices today were recorded in Punjab’s Tanda Urmur market and Uttar Pradesh’s Maigalganj market, where onions reached up to ₹2,400–₹2,500 per quintal. Farmers located nearby can benefit by selling in these markets to earn better profits.
- Store onions in areas with lower prices: Markets where prices are still between ₹1,000 and ₹1,300 per quintal (such as Kopaganj, Sri Ganganagar, and Gurugram), farmers should consider storing their onions and selling later when the market improves.
- Factor in transportation costs: If the market offering better rates is far away, calculate the transport expenses and price difference carefully. Sometimes, selling directly to bulk buyers in local markets can be more profitable.
- Focus on quality and grading: Clean, uniform-sized, and rot-free onions always fetch higher prices in mandis. Proper sorting and grading can help maximize returns.
- Keep track of daily market trends: Onion prices are changing daily depending on weather conditions and supply levels. Farmers are advised to stay updated using mobile apps or online mandi price portals.
