Price and Arrival Analysis:

Today’s onion market in Maharashtra clearly highlighted the impact of arrivals on price movement:

  • Heavy Arrival Mandis: Parner, Lasalgaon, and Pimpalgaon saw massive inflows, putting downward pressure on prices. Minimum rates dropped to ₹200–₹500 in several markets.
  • Low Arrival Mandis: Markets with very low arrivals such as Kamthi (0.4 tonnes), Hingna (0.7 tonnes), and Kalyan (0.3 tonnes) recorded sharp price jumps, reaching ₹2000 to ₹2560 per quintal.
  • Highest Price Today: The strongest price surge was at Pimpalgaon APMC, where the maximum rate hit ₹2566 per quintal. Parner also reported a robust top price of ₹2500.
  • Meanwhile, Gangapur, Mangal Wedha, and Akluj saw prices crash to ₹100–₹300 due to oversupply and lower-quality arrivals.
  • Moderate Price Range: Markets like Nashik, Malegaon, Dhule, and Bhusaval maintained stable prices between ₹1000 and ₹1700.

Overall, today’s trend shows a clear pattern: high arrivals are pulling prices down, while low-arrival mandis are witnessing steep upward movement.

Key Advice for Farmers

  1. In heavy-arrival markets (Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon, Parner), prices are currently under pressure. Holding the stock for a few days may give better returns.
  2. Where arrivals are low and prices are high (Kamthi, Hingna, Nagpur), farmers can sell immediately for strong profits.
  3. With changing weather increasing the risk of spoilage, farmers should grade onions carefully, as high-quality lots are receiving the highest prices.
  4. Farmers with storage facilities can store onions for 1–2 weeks, as prices are expected to firm up soon.
  5. Small farmers should consider selling in nearby high-price mandis rather than sticking to their local markets.
