As December sets in, winter has begun to tighten its grip across North India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no major temperature fluctuations are expected in northwest India over the next few days. However, night temperatures in Uttar Pradesh, Central India, and parts of the Northeast may dip by 2–3°C in the coming three days.

Minimum temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir are likely to drop below 5°C. Adampur in Punjab recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 2.4°C, highlighting the intensifying cold wave in the region.

Dense Chill in Delhi-NCR with Light Fog and Cold Winds:

The winter chill is steadily increasing in the national capital as well. Delhi has witnessed a dip of 2–3°C in both day and night temperatures. Light fog is expected on the mornings of December 4 and 5, with the minimum temperature likely to settle between 4°C and 6°C.

By December 6, the night temperature may rise slightly to 7–9°C. During this period, cold northwesterly winds blowing at 10–15 km/h are expected to intensify the morning and late-night chill across the region.
Cold Wave Deepens in Madhya Pradesh Due to Icy Winds

IMD forecasts a fresh western disturbance from December 5, which will impact the Himalayan region and subsequently influence the weather in Madhya Pradesh. As snow begins to melt in the mountains, icy winds will sweep into the plains, causing a sharp fall in temperatures. Cities such as Indore, Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, and Sagar divisions are expected to experience significantly colder conditions than usual.

Longer Cold Wave Likely in December–January:

December and January are traditionally the peak winter months in North India. Cold northerly winds combined with western disturbances typically bring a steep temperature drop during this period.
Weather experts predict that many cities may encounter prolonged cold-wave conditions lasting 20–22 days this season, suggesting a harsher-than-usual winter ahead.
