As December sets in, winter conditions have strengthened rapidly across North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further dip in temperatures over the coming days. According to the department, several districts in Punjab, North Maharashtra and Rajasthan may experience cold wave conditions. Minimum temperatures in northwestern and central regions are expected to fall by 2–4°C over the next four days.
Night temperatures continue to fall steadily across northern states. Punjab’s Faridkot recorded the season’s lowest minimum at 3°C on Tuesday night, indicating a significant increase in winter chill. In the hill states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, temperatures have also slipped below 6°C, intensifying the cold conditions in mountainous regions.
Rajasthan too is witnessing a rapid decline in temperatures. Lunkaransar (Bikaner) reported a minimum of 4.7°C, while Fatehpur recorded 6.6°C, Ganganagar 6.9°C, Alwar 8°C and Churu 9°C. IMD suggests that cold wave conditions may strengthen further in Jaipur and Bikaner after December 4.
A similar trend is expected in eastern states as well, where temperatures may dip by 3–4°C. With changing wind patterns, many regions are likely to experience denser and more persistent cold.
Uttar Pradesh, daytime weather remains slightly warm due to sunshine, but evenings and nights have turned significantly colder. On December 3, both western and eastern parts of the state are expected to witness clear skies, with the possibility of shallow to moderate fog during early hours.
The weather is likely to stay dry on December 4 and 5, while foggy conditions may continue from December 6 to 8. Although IMD has not issued any cold wave warning for UP yet, night temperatures are gradually falling, increasing the overall winter impact.
