Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that Indian agriculture is reaching remarkable new heights and expressed confidence that Dr. M.S. Swaminathan would be proud of the progress. He said that recent agricultural policies have gone beyond mere support—they have instilled confidence among farmers.
He noted that the PM-KISAN Scheme has provided direct financial assistance to small farmers, the PM Crop Insurance Scheme has safeguarded them from agricultural risks, and the PM Agriculture Irrigation Scheme has addressed irrigation challenges effectively.
The Prime Minister shared that 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been formed, enhancing the collective strength of small farmers. Support for cooperative societies and self-help groups has accelerated the rural economy.
Digital platforms like e-NAM have made crop trading more accessible, and the PM Kisan SAMPADA Yojana has boosted food processing and storage infrastructure. He also highlighted the newly launched PM Dhan-Dhanya Yojana, which aims to uplift 100 backward agricultural districts by improving infrastructure and providing financial support, instilling new confidence in farming communities.
The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to becoming a developed nation in the 21st century, emphasizing inclusive participation. Inspired by Dr. Swaminathan, he urged scientists to focus on nutrition security.
He emphasized promoting bio-fortified crops and natural farming, especially in the face of climate change. He called for the development of climate-resilient varieties—including drought-resistant, heat-tolerant, and flood-resistant crops. He also stressed the need for affordable soil testing kits and better nutrient management techniques.
PM Modi urged the promotion of solar-powered micro-irrigation and the use of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and satellite data to support better decision-making in agriculture. He emphasized the importance of expert guidance for agritech startups to enhance innovation and impact.
He appreciated the traditional wisdom of Indian farmers and advocated integrating it with modern science to build a comprehensive knowledge ecosystem. Highlighting the importance of crop diversification, he stressed raising farmer awareness about its benefits and the consequences of its absence.
