Since the beginning of May, wheat prices across the country’s agricultural markets have seen notable fluctuations. However, after the first week of the month, wheat prices broke all previous records. In response to this unexpected surge, the government swiftly issued directives to stabilize the situation.
Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection Minister Shri Govind Singh Rajput expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, stating that the government’s timely decision has proven highly beneficial for farmers. He also announced that Madhya Pradesh now ranks second in the country in terms of wheat procurement.
The Madhya Pradesh government’s decision to offer a ₹175 per quintal bonus in addition to the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2425 has yielded impressive results. So far this year, the state has procured approximately 77.74 lakh metric tons of wheat, a significant rise compared to 48.38 lakh metric tons procured last year.
Minister Rajput further informed that over 73.51 lakh metric tons of procured wheat have already been safely stored. Additionally, farmers have received payments totaling over ₹17,870 crore, ensuring that procurement and disbursement processes remain smooth and timely.
₹2600 per Quintal: Best Price for Farmers: With the MSP set at ₹2425 per quintal and an additional ₹175 bonus offered by the state government, the effective purchase rate for wheat this season stands at ₹2600 per quintal—bringing direct financial benefit to farmers across the state.
Slot Booking Facility Resumes: To meet its procurement targets promptly, the Madhya Pradesh government has resumed the slot booking facility for farmers wishing to sell their wheat at MSP. Through this system, registered farmers are now able to sell their produce at the full rate of ₹2600 per quintal in a streamlined and timely manner.
