Madhya Pradesh government has completed preparations for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the 2026 season. State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput announced that the state has set a procurement target of 7.8 million metric tonnes this year.

Record Farmer Registration, Better Returns Assured:

A record 1.904 million farmers have registered for wheat procurement this season an increase of 360,000 compared to last year. The registered crop area has also expanded to 4.158 million hectares. To ensure better returns, the government is offering an MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal along with an additional bonus of ₹40 per quintal, providing farmers with improved price realization for their produce.

Phased Procurement from April 10 and April 15:

To avoid overcrowding and long waiting times at procurement centres, the state will implement a phased procurement strategy. Procurement will begin on April 10, 2026, in Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram divisions. The remaining divisions will start procurement from April 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Revenue Department is fast-tracking verification of registered land records. Once verification is complete, a slot booking system will be introduced, allowing farmers to sell their produce at designated times without inconvenience.

Adequate Storage and Packaging Arrangements in Place:

The government has ensured sufficient availability of gunny bags for procurement operations. The central government has allocated an additional 50,000 bales of jute to the state. In addition, the use of HDP/PP bags and single-use jute packaging has been permitted to prevent any logistical disruptions.

In districts with limited storage capacity, provisions have been made to utilize up to 120% of warehouse capacity under a joint arrangement model. Furthermore, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, food grains for March–April and May–June 2026 will be distributed together, freeing up additional storage space.

Ample Storage Capacity across the State:

Madhya Pradesh currently has a covered storage capacity of around 40 million metric tonnes, of which nearly 10.3 million metric tonnes remain vacant. This exceeds the current procurement target, ensuring smooth storage and handling without any constraints.

Supply Chain Remains Stable despite Global Concerns:

Minister Govind Singh Rajput also stated that despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the supply of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, and LPG remains stable. Coordinated efforts by both central and state governments have ensured that neither farmers nor the general public face any disruption.

Overall, the state aims to make this year’s wheat procurement process more transparent, efficient, and farmer-friendly, ensuring timely procurement and better income opportunities for farmers.
