The Madhya Pradesh government has stated that sustained efforts are being made to promote milk production across the state with the objective of making livestock farmers and dairy producers self-reliant. This initiative is being seen as an important step towards building an Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh. To strengthen the rural economy, increase the income of livestock farmers, and develop the dairy sector in a planned, organized, professional, and profitable manner, the state government has launched the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana.
The scheme has emerged as a ray of hope, especially for needy youth, farmers, and livestock rearers who aspire to establish modern dairy units and create a sustainable source of income. Its core objective is to enhance milk production in the state, generate new employment opportunities in rural areas, and improve the overall economic condition of livestock farmers.
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana, beneficiaries are provided an opportunity to set up a dairy unit with 25 milch animals. Interested and capable applicants can also establish larger dairy projects of up to 8 units, which means a maximum of 200 animals. The scheme has been designed keeping in mind small and medium-scale dairy entrepreneurs.
One of the key conditions of the scheme is that the beneficiary must have at least 3.50 acres of agricultural land per unit. This land is considered essential for animal housing, fodder management, and smooth operation of the dairy unit. In addition, the government is placing strong emphasis on providing professional and scientific training to livestock farmers so that they can run their dairy businesses efficiently using modern techniques.
The most attractive feature of the scheme is the financial assistance (subsidy) offered by the government.
The remaining amount will be arranged through bank loans. This financial structure significantly reduces the burden of large initial investment and makes it easier for beneficiaries to start a dairy enterprise.
Transparency has been given top priority in the selection of beneficiaries. The application process is completely online, and selection is generally done on a “first come, first served” basis. Additional preference is being given to livestock farmers who are already supplying milk regularly to dairy unions or cooperative institutions.
