The Madhya Pradesh government has launched the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana to empower dairy farmers and boost milk production across the state. Under this scheme, the establishment of a unit comprising 25 milch animals is eligible for a maximum project cost support of up to ₹42 lakh. To avail the benefits, the applicant must be a resident of Madhya Pradesh and must have received training in dairy farming.
The scheme is open to dairy farmers from all social categories. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid dairy farming training certificate from a government or government-recognized institute. The government will issue separate guidelines for the training process. Applications will be accepted only through the designated online portal.
Applicants must own a minimum of 3.50 acres of agricultural land. Joint family land may also be considered, provided written consent from all co-owners is obtained. Each unit must consist of animals from only one breed — either cows or buffaloes. However, if an applicant seeks to benefit from up to eight units, they may select from different breeds such as improved cows, crossbred cows, or buffaloes.
Priority will be given to farmers who are already supplying milk to cooperative dairy federations. Additional preference will be extended to those located along existing or proposed milk routes of the dairy federations. A beneficiary may reapply under the scheme after repaying all dues from a previous loan, but there must be a minimum gap of two years between two loans.
Subsidy and Loan Support: Under the scheme, beneficiaries from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will receive a capital subsidy of 33% of the total project cost, while other categories will receive a 25% subsidy. The subsidy will be disbursed as a lump sum after a lock-in period of three years, and no interest will be charged on it. The dairy unit must be operated for up to seven years or until the repayment of the loan, whichever is earlier. Loans will be disbursed in four phases, and subsequent installments will be approved only after repayment of the earlier phase. Early repayment of the loan will also be permitted.
