In a major decision aimed at supporting pulse growers, the Madhya Pradesh government has approved the procurement of chickpea (gram) and lentil for the next three years. A total budget of ₹3,174 crore has been allocated under the scheme, ensuring that farmers can sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and remain protected from market volatility.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Bhopal under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The procurement arrangement will be implemented for the Rabi marketing seasons of 2026–27, 2027–28, and 2028–29. The move is expected to provide stable market access and improved price assurance to pulse-producing farmers across the state.
The procurement of chickpea and lentil will be carried out under the Government of India’s Price Support Scheme (PSS). The Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation has been assigned the responsibility of executing the process. As per the plan, up to 25% of the total chickpea production and up to 100% of lentil production will be procured. Additionally, to further ease the burden on farmers, mandi fees on these crops will be waived.
To ensure smooth operations, the cabinet has also approved provisions for working capital support. Out of the estimated ₹7,050 crore requirements, 15% will be arranged by the state. This translates to an annual provision of ₹1,058 crore in the form of government guarantee or advance funding. This mechanism will help ensure timely payments to farmers and seamless procurement operations.
Other Key Approvals:
Apart from the procurement plan, the cabinet also cleared several development and welfare proposals worth ₹16,720 crore across sectors. A Financial Training and Research Institute (FTRI) will be established in Bhopal to strengthen administrative efficiency and financial transparency.
Significant decisions were also taken in the education sector. Budget approvals were granted for fee reimbursement under the Right to Education (RTE), the PM SHRI Schools scheme, and the distribution of free textbooks for students from Classes 9 to 12.
