The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a comprehensive plan to boost the cultivation of millets such as ragi, kodo-kutki, jowar, bajra, and maize across the state. As part of this initiative, the government will begin direct procurement of these “Shree Anna” (nutri-cereals) crops from farmers. Additionally, farmers cultivating tur (pigeon pea) will receive high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and technical assistance to enhance productivity.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stressed the need to strengthen the management of existing agricultural markets and to develop crop-specific models for mandis (market yards). He proposed the establishment of specialized mandis for fruits, vegetables, and spices based on emerging needs. Private sector participation in these developments will also be encouraged.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of transforming mandis into model and self-reliant centers where farmers can sell their produce without any difficulty and receive fair prices. He emphasized that the revenue generated from mandi fees should be used for the welfare of farmers.
Dr. Yadav reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting millets such as ragi, kodo, kutki, maize, jowar, and bajra. Farmers will be provided with improved seeds, subsidies on agricultural machinery, and fair market prices. Subsidy amounts may also be increased as per requirement to encourage millet farming.
Agri-Industry Meets Benefiting Farmers: The Chief Minister mentioned that farmer fairs are being organized across all divisions of the state to showcase modern farming equipment, new technologies, and investment opportunities. Based on the positive response from the Agri-Industry Meet held recently in Sitamau, Mandsaur, future events will be further improved. He directed officials to raise awareness about preventing stubble burning and promote the use of machines like Happy Seeders at the gram panchayat level.
Three Crops Expected to Receive GI Tag Soon: During the meeting, it was informed that three crops—Nagdaman Makutki, Sitahi Kutki, and Baingani Tur from Dindori district—are likely to receive Geographical Indication (GI) tags soon. All 259 mandis in the state are now maintaining digital records under the e-Mandi scheme.
Major Agri-Industry Summit to Be Held in Narsinghpur: A large-scale Agri-Industry Summit and Agricultural Fair will be held in Narsinghpur from May 26 to 28, 2025.
