Madhya Pradesh has recorded a major milestone in wheat procurement during the current rabi marketing season, with purchases under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system crossing 90 lakh metric tonnes. The state government had set a procurement target of 100 lakh metric tonnes this year, and nearly 90 percent of the target has already been achieved.
According to Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput, the state has procured 90.08 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from more than 12.30 lakh farmers so far. The government has also introduced several administrative measures to speed up procurement operations and improve convenience for farmers at procurement centres.
The state government has accelerated the payment process alongside procurement activities. More than ₹18,707 crore has already been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts against wheat purchases. Officials said that lifting operations are also progressing rapidly, with over 78.52 lakh metric tonnes of procured wheat already transported from procurement centres. Faster payments and timely lifting have helped reduce pressure at procurement centres and provided relief to farmers.
Wheat procurement in the state began in two phases. The first phase started on April 9, while procurement in the remaining divisions commenced on April 15. The highest procurement has been recorded in the divisions of Bhopal and Ujjain, where a large number of farmers sold their produce under the MSP system.
This season, the Madhya Pradesh government is procuring wheat at an MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal. In addition, farmers are receiving a bonus of ₹40 per quintal from the state government. As a result, farmers are getting a total price of ₹2,625 per quintal, which is helping improve farm income and encouraging higher participation in government procurement centres.
To reduce overcrowding and long waiting hours at procurement centres, the government has implemented several farmer-friendly measures. Weighment slip generation timing has been extended from 6 PM to 10 PM. Payment receipt issuance has been extended till midnight. Procurement activities are being conducted continuously from Monday to Saturday. The number of weighing machines at procurement centres has been increased from four to six. District administrations have also been authorised to deploy additional weighing machines wherever required to ensure smooth operations.
Procurement to Continue Till May 23: Officials from the Food Department said procurement activities are being monitored on an hourly basis to ensure farmers do not face any inconvenience. The government has confirmed that wheat procurement under MSP in Madhya Pradesh will continue till May 23, 2026.
