The monsoon is once again showing signs of increased activity across several parts of India. On August 25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several regions. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh is among the areas expected to experience significant weather activity.
In some locations, wind speeds could reach 40–80 kmph, increasing the risk of waterlogging, travel disruptions and damage to standing crops, vegetables and horticultural plants. Farmers and residents are advised to monitor local weather alerts and take necessary precautions during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Monsoon activity is likely to remain strong across Uttar Pradesh, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning possible in several parts of the state. Districts including Varanasi Weather, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Amethi, Gonda, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Meerut, Agra, Bareilly, Moradabad, Hapur, Saharanpur, Mathura, Sambhal, Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur may experience significant rainfall. Rainfall activity is expected to remain active across eastern Uttar Pradesh from August 25 to 27, while western Uttar Pradesh may see heavy rain and unsettled weather on August 25 and 26. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may accompany rainfall in some areas.
Madhya Pradesh is also likely to experience rain and thunderstorms on August 25. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhopal has issued orange and yellow alerts for different parts of the state. An Orange Alert has been issued for Betul, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Rajgarh and Narsinghpur, where heavy rainfall is possible. Other parts of Madhya Pradesh may also receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Prolonged or intense rainfall could cause waterlogging in agricultural fields and affect standing crops. Farmers, particularly those cultivating in low-lying areas, should ensure that field drainage channels remain clear to prevent excess water from accumulating.
Low-Pressure System to Strengthen Rainfall Activity:
The ongoing weather activity is being influenced by a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and northern Odisha. The system is expected to enhance rainfall across parts of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, as well as other areas of central and eastern India. A trough extending from southwestern Uttar Pradesh through northern Madhya Pradesh, northern Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand towards the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure system is also contributing to increased moisture and cloud development.
The interaction of these weather systems is creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across several regions.
Bihar Weather Alert: Rain and Thunderstorms in 11 Districts:
Bihar is also experiencing active monsoon conditions, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds possible in several areas. For August 25, weather warnings have been issued for 11 districts Lakhisarai, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Kishanganj, Purnia, Begusarai, Vaishali, Jehanabad, Siwan, Darbhanga and Buxar.
Important Weather Advisory for Farmers: Rainfall can improve soil moisture and benefit rain-fed crops, but excessive rain, waterlogging, strong winds and lightning can also create risks for standing crops, vegetables and horticultural plants.
