Government Offering ₹80,000 Subsidy for Mango & Litchi Cultivation – Farmers Apply Now

Patna: The Bihar government is actively promoting horticulture among farmers by launching new schemes. Under the Mango and Litchi Area Expansion Scheme 2025-26, part of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), farmers can now apply online. The scheme aims to increase the area under mango and litchi cultivation, provide high-quality planting material, and boost farmers’ income.

Mango Cultivation Across the State:

The scheme supports mango cultivation in all 38 districts of Bihar, while litchi cultivation is being expanded in six key districts: Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Samastipur, Siwan, and Vaishali. Farmers can receive assistance for a minimum of 0.25 acre (0.1 hectare) up to 5 acres (2 hectares) under this program.

High-Quality Planting Material for Farmers:

The government ensures that only quality plants reach farmers through:

  1. Departmental nurseries
  2. Agricultural university nurseries
  3. NHB-approved nurseries
  4. Centres of Excellence (Vaishali, Desari)
  5. National Litchi Research Centre (Musahri, Muzaffarpur)

This guarantees healthy and productive planting material for optimal yields.

Subsidy Details Up to ₹80,000 per Hectare:

Farmers will receive financial assistance over two years:

  1. Year 1: ₹48,000 per hectare
  2. Year 2: ₹32,000 per hectare

This support covers planting, irrigation, maintenance, and care of mango and litchi orchards.

Eligibility and Rules:

  1. The scheme is only for land-owning farmers (Raiyat).
  2. Farmers must have their name clearly listed on land ownership certificates or revenue receipts.
  3. If not listed, a lineage certificate is required along with the application.
  4. Farmers must have an active DBT-registered bank account for direct transfer of the subsidy.

Reservation and Women’s Participation:

The government has ensured social justice and gender equity in beneficiary selection:

  1. General category: 83.903%
  2. Scheduled Castes (SC): 15%
  3. Scheduled Tribes (ST): 1.097%
  4. Additionally, 30% of beneficiaries in each category will be women.

Application Process:

Farmers can apply online via the official Bihar Agriculture Department website. Documents required for submission include:

  1. Aadhaar card
  2. Bank passbook
  3. Land ownership documents
  4. Passport-sized photograph

Selected farmers will also receive training on modern mango and litchi cultivation techniques to enhance productivity.
