Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle
Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is once again spreading rapidly across several districts of the state, raising serious concerns among livestock farmers. In response to the rising cases, the Animal Husbandry Department has issued a high alert across all districts and directed officials to ensure continuous monitoring of affected animals. Experts emphasize that early detection and preventive care are essential to protect milch animals and curb further spread.

New Cases Reported in These Districts:

Fresh cases of Lumpy Skin Disease have been confirmed in multiple districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Jhabua, Ratlam, Betul, Barwani, Seoni, Sagar, and Bhopal.
State Director of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Dr. P.S. Patel, highlighted that preventive vaccination is the most effective defense against the infection. He urged farmers to immediately contact their nearest veterinary center if any symptoms are detected.

Keep Infected Animals Isolated, Maintain Hygiene:

The Animal Husbandry Department has advised livestock owners to strictly follow these measures:

  • Isolate infected animals from healthy ones
  • Maintain cleanliness in cattle sheds and surrounding areas
  • Spray insecticides regularly to control mosquitoes, flies, and ticks

According to Dr. Patel, these parasites are the primary carriers of the virus, making their control critical in preventing the spread.

Free Vaccination Drive in Full Swing:

To contain the outbreak, the state government is running a free LSD vaccination campaign. As per department data:

  • Over 4.15 million cattle have been vaccinated since April 2025
  • Adequate vaccine supply has been ensured across districts
  • Farmers are also receiving free guidance on disease identification and treatment
