Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a virtual interaction on May 31 with legislators from various states under the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. He emphasized that this campaign is not merely a government initiative but a mass movement, aimed at directly connecting with 10 million (1 crore) farmers across India. The campaign will run from May 29 to June 12, 2025.

Direct Outreach to 7.95 Lakh Farmers:

Shri Chouhan informed that so far, 2,170 teams have conducted 4,416 field visits across 7,368 villages, reaching approximately 7.95 lakh farmers. The mission of these teams is to disseminate agricultural knowledge and scientific practices among farmers, motivating them to work towards the goal of ‘Viksit Krishi’ (Developed Agriculture).

Scientific Farming Knowledge for Farmers:

Under this campaign, farmers will receive crucial information on:
Use of climate-resilient crop varieties

Balanced application of fertilizers:

  • Soil nutrition management and conservation
  • Identification and treatment of crop diseases
  • Encouragement of agricultural diversification

The Minister highlighted that in view of present-day challenges, the campaign will also educate farmers on organic farming, drone technology in agriculture, animal husbandry, dairying, and fisheries.

Immediate Benefits for the Kharif Season: According to Shri Chouhan, the campaign will have a direct and immediate impact on the upcoming Kharif crop season. He described the initiative as a significant step in realizing the vision of ‘Lab-to-Land’, and a key milestone towards achieving the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’. Agricultural scientists, government officials, and farmers will work together to advance India’s agricultural transformation.

Call to Legislators to Mobilize Farmers: Shri Chouhan urged legislators to encourage farmers to engage with scientists and actively participate in training sessions. He stated that the objective is to achieve low-cost, high-yield, sustainable and profitable farming.

Historic Initiative to Bridge Science and Soil: Concluding his address, the Minister said that through this campaign, experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will directly reach farmers’ homes and fields. Moreover, they will also learn from the grassroots innovations of farmers. He described this initiative as a historic milestone in the journey of Indian agricultural science and rural development.
