Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, more than 15,000 consumers have installed rooftop solar net meters on their homes in the past year, reflecting growing enthusiasm for solar energy across the region. So far, over ₹90 crore in subsidies has been transferred directly into the bank accounts of 12,000 beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Anup Kumar Singh, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company, informed that the scheme is being effectively implemented across the Malwa-Nimar region. In Indore city alone, rooftop solar panels have been installed at more than 16,700 consumer locations. Across the company’s operational area, 33,200 rooftop solar systems are currently functional.

Easy Approval Process and Significant Bill Savings: Mr. Singh added that the application process for this scheme is simple and time-efficient, attracting a large number of consumers. People are now generating their own electricity, reducing their dependence on coal-based power and contributing to environmental conservation.
He also mentioned that consumers who have installed rooftop solar systems can expect up to 90% reduction in their electricity bills starting from the next billing cycle.
