The Indian subcontinent is bracing for a surge in monsoon activity beginning July 21, with several states expected to witness intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the coming week. The weather department has issued advisories and alerts, urging citizens to remain cautious as severe weather conditions loom large across the country.

Northern States on High Rain Alert:

Regions in the western Himalayan belt—particularly Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from July 21 to 23. The rainfall intensity could trigger localized flooding and landslides in hilly areas. Punjab and Haryana are also expected to receive significant rainfall on July 21 and 22, with showers likely to persist in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab until July 24.
In Uttar Pradesh, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in western parts on July 21, while eastern regions could face intense showers around July 26 and 27. Eastern Rajasthan is forecast to receive substantial rainfall on July 22, 26, and 27, prompting caution across vulnerable zones.

Monsoon to Remain Active in South and Northeast India:

Southern states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka (coastal areas), Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra are likely to witness widespread rainfall on July 21. Similarly, heavy rain is also expected in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar.
In the northeast, states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will continue to face intermittent downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning activity.

Lightning and Windstorm Warnings:

Several regions, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, may experience thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds with speeds reaching up to 30–40 km/h. Isolated light to moderate showers with thunder and lightning are also expected in parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

Public Advisory for Safety:

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised farmers, travelers, and residents in vulnerable areas to stay updated with local weather bulletins and avoid venturing into risky terrains. Special caution has been urged for those living in hilly areas prone to landslides. People are also advised to take shelter during lightning storms and avoid standing under trees or open areas.

With a week-long spell of active monsoon ahead, large parts of India are expected to remain rain-soaked. While the rains are likely to bring relief from heat and support agricultural activities, there’s also the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and travel disruptions in low-lying regions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
