The southwest monsoon has gained momentum across several parts of the country, bringing with it intense rainfall and a heightened risk of flooding in various states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for multiple regions including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Southern districts of Rajasthan, including Bundi, Jhalawar, Tonk, Kota, and Bhilwara, are expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall on July 18. The IMD has warned of potential flash floods in these areas over the next 24 hours, urging local administrations to stay vigilant and prepared for emergency response.
Northern India will continue to receive significant rainfall between July 18 and July 23. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh are expected to experience heavy showers during this period. Particularly, Uttarakhand may face intense downpours from July 20 to 23, which could lead to landslides, blocked roads, and disrupted transport services. Western parts of Uttar Pradesh, including districts like Jhansi, Mahoba, Jalaun, and Lalitpur, are also under flash flood threat.
Several districts in both eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Neemuch, and Mandsaur, may face urban flooding and waterlogging due to persistent rains over the next 24 hours. Authorities have been advised to remain alert and ready for emergency measures in vulnerable areas.
Apart from rainfall, states such as Bihar, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir are also expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h. Residents, especially farmers and travelers, are advised to avoid open areas and follow safety guidelines issued by weather authorities.
Southern India Sees Continued Monsoon Activity:
The monsoon remains active in the southern states as well. Kerala and southern interior Karnataka are likely to receive very heavy rainfall between July 18 and 20. Coastal regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are also expected to experience intense showers. These conditions may impact local transportation and low-lying areas.
Conclusion: The next few days may pose significant weather-related challenges across parts of northern, central, and southern India. Extra caution is advised, particularly in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh, where the impact of the monsoon is expected to be most severe.
