The weather has changed significantly in many parts of North India. States like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan experienced strong winds and heavy rain in the morning, leading to a drop in temperature and a cooler atmosphere.
Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rain and strong winds early this morning. Some areas even reported hail, making the weather pleasant and cool. Due to the bad weather, over 40 flights were diverted and nearly 100 flights were delayed.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi. According to the forecast, winds could blow at speeds of 70–80 km/h, accompanied by heavy rain and thunderstorms within the next few hours. Wind speeds of up to 74 km/h have already been recorded.
The IMD has also predicted that the temperature will remain below 40°C for the next few days, bringing relief from the heat.
Uttar Pradesh, unexpected rain and strong winds have made the weather pleasant in many areas. On May 2, several parts of the state, including Ghaziabad and Noida, experienced sudden rain and thunderstorms in the morning. The weather department warns that both western and eastern UP could continue to face stormy weather.
Rain in several districts of Bihar has also brought cooler conditions. Maximum temperatures in places like Patna weather, Saharsa, Banka, Rohtas, and Munger were recorded between 28°C and 32°C. IMD has issued a rain and thunderstorm warning for 26 districts including Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Begusarai, Buxar, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Siwan, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and both East and West Champaran. Light to moderate rain is expected to continue in parts of the state until May 7, after which temperatures may rise again by May 9.
Warnings for Other States: The IMD has also issued alerts for parts of North, East, and South India. States like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, southwest Rajasthan, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and north coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall.
Strong Winds Expected in Odisha: Odisha’s Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada districts, winds could reach speeds of 60–70 km/h. The IMD has warned that thunderstorms and lightning in these areas could affect normal life.
