Weather conditions are changing rapidly across different parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued important alerts for the coming days, warning of cold wave conditions, dense fog, rainfall, and snowfall in several regions. While parts of southern and central India are likely to experience intensified cold, dense fog is expected to disrupt normal life across the northern plains.
According to IMD, there is a strong likelihood of cold wave conditions in parts of Telangana and interior Karnataka on December 14 and 15. Chhattisgarh and Odisha may also witness a sharp drop in temperatures on December 14. In particular, northern interior Karnataka has been placed under a severe cold wave alert for December 14.
Fog conditions in northern India are expected to worsen further. Between December 14 and 16, several areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh may experience dense fog during the morning hours, with very dense fog likely on December 14 and 15.
As per the latest IMD update, fog may prevail in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 14 to 18. Assam and Meghalaya, along with western Uttar Pradesh, are also expected to remain under foggy conditions between December 14 and 16.
Himachal Pradesh, fog is likely on December 14. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana weather, Chandigarh, and Delhi may witness dense fog during the morning hours on December 15 and 16, potentially affecting visibility and daily activities.
IMD has reported that a western disturbance is active in the lower tropospheric levels over north Pakistan and adjoining regions. Additionally, another western disturbance is present in the middle troposphere. A strong sub-tropical westerly jet stream is active over northeast India, with wind speeds reaching up to 95 knots.
Rainfall and Snowfall Forecast: Light rain and snowfall are likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad between December 13 and 18. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may also receive light rain or snowfall on December 13 and 14. Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions, especially in regions prone to cold wave conditions and dense fog.
