Weather Alert: Dense Fog Blankets North India, Cold Wave to Intensify till December 20; Alert Issued in 38 Districts of UP

Weather conditions are changing rapidly across several parts of the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail over North and Northeast India between December 16 and 20, accompanied by a further drop in temperatures. People in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and hilly regions have been advised to remain cautious.

Dense Fog Warning Across North India

As per the IMD, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh may witness dense to very dense fog during the morning hours on December 16 and 17. During the same period, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are also likely to experience extremely low visibility due to thick fog. Foggy conditions may persist in Himachal Pradesh from December 16 to 18, while Northeast India could see similar conditions between December 16 and 20, potentially disrupting road traffic.

Temperature Trends Over the Last 24 Hours

Over the past 24 hours, a significant drop in temperatures has been recorded in several regions. In many areas of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, minimum temperatures fell below 5°C. Cold conditions have also intensified across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Bathinda in Punjab recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.8°C.

Dense Fog Alert in 38 Districts of Uttar Pradesh

According to the IMD, weather conditions in both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh are expected to remain largely dry. However, a dense fog alert has been issued for 38 districts across the state. Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Agra, Etawah, Prayagraj, and Mirzapur have been placed under an orange alert due to extremely dense fog. The department also noted that westerly winds are likely to strengthen over the next two days, which may lead to a further drop in temperatures. As wind speed increases, fog intensity is expected to gradually reduce.

Today’s Weather in Rajasthan
The IMD has forecast that minimum temperatures in most parts of Rajasthan are likely to remain near normal over the next two days. However, light to moderate fog may occur at isolated places in both eastern and western Rajasthan. Reduced visibility is expected during early morning and late-night hours, and motorists are advised to drive with caution.
