The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh nationwide weather bulletin warning of severe cold wave conditions across several states. According to the department, cold conditions are intensifying rapidly in northern India, and a significant drop in temperatures is expected in the coming days.
IMD forecasts indicate that residents in many parts of the country may face biting cold. In northwest India, the minimum temperature may rise slightly by 2–3°C over the next two days, but a steep decline of 3–5°C is likely to follow.
On Friday, cold wave conditions were recorded in Punjab, Haryana, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, while western Madhya Pradesh experienced a cold wave to severe cold wave situation. IMD reported that the minimum temperature dipped below 5°C in several parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Gilgit-Baltistan–Muzaffarabad. Many regions of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab also witnessed temperatures significantly below normal.
Throughout the week, temperatures ranging between 5°C and 10°C were noted across large parts of Madhya Pradesh weather, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was recorded in Punjab.
The IMD has highlighted the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the south Kerala coast, along with a western disturbance active in the upper atmosphere. These weather systems are likely to trigger a fresh round of rainfall and snowfall over the hilly and coastal regions.
