The Madhya Pradesh government has emphasized that the safety and prosperity of the fishing community remain among its top priorities. To ensure secure and sustainable utilization of fisheries resources in major reservoirs across the state, advanced technologies are being introduced.
As part of a pilot project by the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation, a high-tech Command Control Room equipped with drones, GPS, and CCTV cameras is being set up at Indira Sagar, one of the country’s largest reservoirs. This system will enable 24x7 monitoring of fishing activities, quick response during emergencies, and identification of breeding grounds. With drone-enabled live monitoring and GPS-based tracking of boats, prompt rescue and support for fishermen will be possible.
During the monsoon season, rising water levels around reservoir islands pose risks for fishermen who often stay on boats or at the edges of water bodies for extended periods—sometimes 15 days to a month. To address this, the government plans to construct five transit houses and two floating platforms in the Gandhi Sagar and Indira Sagar reservoirs. These shelters will be equipped with essential facilities like cooking arrangements, solar mobile charging, and bio-toilets. These amenities aim to offer safe resting places and basic necessities during long fishing expeditions.
In an effort to connect the fishing community with global aquaculture practices, a modern Kevat Training Institute is being established in Bhopal with an investment of ₹5 crore under the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF). The institute will offer training in advanced techniques such as cage culture, biofloc, recirculatory aquaculture systems (RAS), fish processing, packaging, and value addition. This initiative will empower fishermen with modern knowledge and business skills aligned with international standards.
Government's Holistic Initiative: This multi-pronged initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring safety, livelihood support, and capacity building for the fishing community. It also signifies a forward-looking approach toward sustainable water resource management and increased fish production. With the integration of advanced technology, Madhya Pradesh’s fisheries sector is entering a new era of growth and modernization.
