Farmers and citizens, stay alert! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert for the period from June 29 to July 5, 2025, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of northwest and western India.

States likely to be impacted include Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. This week could significantly impact both agriculture and daily life — with risks of waterlogging in farmlands and landslides in hilly regions. Whether you're a farmer or planning to travel, this report is a must-read. Find out which regions will be hit, when the rain is expected, and what precautions you should take to stay safe and prepared.

Very Heavy Rain Expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh:

  • Uttarakhand: Very heavy rainfall is forecast between June 29 and July 3, raising the risk of localized flooding and landslides in hilly areas.
  • Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rainfall is expected on June 29 and 30, potentially impacting travel and outdoor activities.

Due to the heavy precipitation, landslides and waterlogging may occur in hilly terrains. Local authorities and travelers are advised to remain extremely cautious in these regions.

Impact on Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana:

  • Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall between June 29 and July 2.
  • Eastern Uttar Pradesh may witness moderate showers on June 30 and July 1.
  • Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are expected to receive significant rainfall from June 29 to July 3, with very heavy rain likely on June 29 and 30.

These rain spells may bring both opportunities and challenges for ongoing agricultural activities.

Monsoon to Activate in Rajasthan Between July 2–5:

Eastern Rajasthan, the monsoon is expected to become active starting July 2, with heavy showers likely on July 4 and 5. While this could be favorable for kharif crop sowing, excess rainfall may damage standing crops if proper drainage is not ensured.

Western India Also Braces for Intense Rain: Regions including Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 7 days, as the monsoon continues to remain active in these parts. Marathwada may also receive good rainfall on June 29 and 30. These conditions could cause waterlogging and transport disruptions, especially in low-lying urban areas.

Important Advice for Farmers and the Public:

  • Farmers: Make sure your fields have well-maintained drainage systems, particularly if you're growing crops that are vulnerable to waterlogging. Farmers sowing paddy (rice) can benefit from the rainfall, but must protect seedlings from excessive water damage.
  • General Public: Check weather forecasts before traveling, particularly to hilly or landslide-prone areas. Avoid unnecessary movement during peak rain alerts, and stay connected to local advisories.
