Haryana to Become the No. 1 Fish-Producing State in India! Government Prepares a ‘Master Plan’

Haryana Fish Farming
Haryana Fish Farming

Haryana’s fisheries sector is rapidly scaling new heights of growth and development. Currently, the state ranks second in the country in inland (pond-based) fish production, just behind Uttar Pradesh. Now, Haryana has set an ambitious goal to become India’s number one state in fish production.

Announcing this vision during a recent review meeting, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana shared that the state government has prepared a comprehensive action plan to achieve this target. Senior officials from the Fisheries Department also participated in the meeting, which reviewed the progress of key announcements made in the 2025 Budget related to the fisheries sector.
The Minister directed officials to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach every fish farmer, including those in the most remote regions.

Focus on Cold Storage and Cold Chain Development:

Minister Rana informed that 25 cold storage units have already been completed across the state, while 18 new ones are under construction. Out of these, 10 cold storages have already been granted subsidies to beneficiary farmers.
To maintain fish quality and strengthen the marketing process, the government is developing a dedicated cold chain network to ensure that fish remains fresh and safe for longer periods.
Additionally, plans are in the final stages to establish fish markets in Faridabad, Gurugram, and Hisar, which will provide fish farmers with better local marketing opportunities and improved price realization.

Ensuring Supply of High-Quality Fish Seed:

The Minister emphasized that the government will provide high-quality fish seed to both new and existing fish farmers. Currently, 15 government-run fish seed centers are operational across the state.
He also informed that the government has distributed ₹45 lakh in subsidies for the installation of solar power systems at fish ponds, while pending subsidy cases will be cleared soon.
The government’s top priority is to develop a seamless and profitable supply chain from fish seed production to marketing to maximize farmer income and efficiency.

Plans for Shrimp Processing Unit and Integrated Aqua Park:

Shrimp farming is expanding rapidly across several districts of Haryana. However, the state currently lacks a dedicated shrimp processing unit. Addressing this gap, the government has initiated plans to set up a modern shrimp processing facility to support this growing sector.
In addition, an Integrated Aqua Park will be developed in Garwa village of Bhiwani district, covering 24.5 acres of land.

Key details of the project include:

  • Estimated cost: ₹98.90 crore
  • Construction tenders have already been invited
  • The project will serve as a milestone in boosting fish and shrimp productivity in Haryana
