The Government of Madhya Pradesh has intensified efforts to implement environmental conservation schemes such as "Ek Baghiya Maa Ke Naam", "Gangotri Harit Yojana", and the "Narmada Parikrama Path". To ensure effective implementation, the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development has launched extensive training programs across the state under the MGNREGA scheme.
A total of 2,101 engineers and 626 Krishi Sakhis (agriculture facilitators) are undergoing technical training to carry out plantation activities using sustainable and scientific methods. The training sessions are being conducted at the Madhya Pradesh Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) in Bhopal, as well as at various regional training centers for rural development and Panchayati Raj.
Participants: 36 Executive Engineers (RES), 215 Assistant Engineers, 47 District Project Managers (SRLM), and 1,803 Sub Engineers.
Objective: To ensure technically sound plantation practices, accurate selection of plant species, and scientific maintenance techniques.
Technology Use: For the first time, "SIPRI software" is being utilized for plantation planning. The software analyzes climatic conditions, soil quality, site suitability, agro-climatic zones, and water availability. Plantation will not be carried out at sites deemed unsuitable, ensuring optimal use of resources.
This initiative, fruit-bearing plants will be planted on the private land of self-help group women to enhance their income. A total of 626 Krishi Sakhis are being trained, who will in turn support and train other women in plantation techniques, species selection, and care of plants. This model promotes both environmental protection and economic empowerment of rural women.
Focus on Sacred Rivers and Pilgrimage Routes:
Rural Development Minister Mr. Prahlad Patel has instructed that plantation be prioritized at river origin sites. He also emphasized the importance of increasing greenery around shelters on the Narmada Parikrama Path, to provide a better environment for pilgrims. He described the “Ek Baghiya Maa Ke Naam” initiative as a major step toward women’s financial empowerment.
A Joint Strategy for Environment and Rural Growth: This state-level training campaign forms a part of the government's integrated strategy for environmental conservation and rural development. It aims not only to increase green cover across Madhya Pradesh but also to provide self-employment opportunities and empowerment to rural women, thereby strengthening the grassroots economy.
