Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), the Bihar government is offering a significant incentive to promote micro-irrigation technologies among farmers. Small and marginal farmers adopting drip or sprinkler irrigation systems will receive up to 80% subsidy, while other farmers will be eligible for up to 70% assistance. Aligned with the “Per Drop More Crop” goal, the scheme aims to ensure water conservation, reduce input costs, and increase agricultural productivity.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister, the Bihar government has approved a budget of ₹14066.66 lakh for the financial year 2025–26 under this scheme. The primary objective is to prevent water wastage in agriculture, lower irrigation expenses, and boost farmers' income.
The scheme, small and marginal farmers will receive up to 80% subsidy on the cost of drip irrigation systems, and 55% subsidy for adopting portable sprinkler systems. Other farmers will get 70% and 45% subsidies respectively. This initiative aims to integrate small and medium farmers with modern irrigation techniques to improve efficiency and output.
To ensure long-term irrigation solutions, the scheme also provides financial assistance for setting up private tube wells or submersible pumps, with subsidies of up to ₹40,000. Additionally, farmers adopting drip irrigation can get 50% subsidy (up to ₹75,000) for constructing ponds or wells, helping to develop sustainable on-farm water sources.
Training and Awareness for Lasting Impact:
To ensure effective implementation, the state government will conduct special training and awareness programs for farmers. These sessions will introduce micro-irrigation technologies, showing farmers how they can save up to 60% of water while increasing crop yields by 25–35%. These efforts aim to build technical capacity among rural farming communities.
A Comprehensive Agricultural Reform, Not Just Irrigation:
The Deputy CM emphasized, “This initiative is not just about expanding irrigation facilities. It’s a robust step toward efficient water management, reduced farming costs, and increased farmer incomes. The Bihar government is committed to ensuring that maximum farmers benefit from this scheme and adopt modern, sustainable, and eco-friendly farming practices.”
