In a major step aimed at protecting farmers’ interests, the Central Government has approved the procurement of crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Telangana. Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has cleared a proposal submitted by the Telangana government for the procurement of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of crops during the Rabi 2026 season.
The procurement will be carried out under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), ensuring that farmers receive a fair and assured price for their produce.
Under this decision, a total of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of crops will be procured in Telangana. The approved quantities include 29,860 metric tonnes of gram, 37,020 metric tonnes of urad, 55,285 metric tonnes of groundnut, and 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower. The overall estimated value of the approved procurement is around ₹894 crore, which will directly benefit farmers in the state.
According to Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the central government’s objective is to protect farmers from market fluctuations and ensure they receive a fair return for their hard work. He noted that this decision will help farmers in Telangana secure remunerative prices for their crops while also encouraging the production of pulses and oilseeds.
