In an effort to boost farmers’ income, the government is constantly introducing new initiatives. To encourage farmers to move beyond traditional crops and adopt high-value fruit crops, a new scheme has been launched to promote fig cultivation with financial assistance.
Subsidy Offered for Fig Farming:
Considering the increasing market demand and high prices of figs, the government has started promoting fig as a profitable crop. Under this initiative, a special scheme called the "Anjeer Phal Vikas Yojana" (Fig Fruit Development Scheme) is being implemented at the state level. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage farmers to take up fig cultivation by offering them a subsidy.
Who Can Avail the Benefits of the Scheme?
Only raiyat (landholding) farmers are eligible to benefit from this scheme. Farmers must possess valid land ownership documents such as a land possession certificate or revenue receipt. If the land is registered in the name of an ancestor, then a family lineage certificate must also be submitted to prove legal heirship.
Where and How Much Subsidy Will Be Given for Fig Cultivation?
The scheme will be implemented in 32 districts of the state, including key regions like West Champaran, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Purnia, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Aurangabad, and Buxar.
- The subsidy will be provided for fig cultivation on land ranging from a minimum of 0.25 acres up to a maximum of 5 acres.
- Farmers can receive a total subsidy of ₹50,000 per hectare, with ₹30,000 in the first year and ₹20,000 in the second year.
- The subsidy amount will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
