Advice for Farmers:

  1. Before selling garlic, farmers should keep an eye on both the today mandi price and arrival levels in nearby markets. The October 3 data shows a wide variation in maximum prices across the listed mandis.
  2. Farmers should not select a mandi solely because it has reported the highest maximum rate. The quality and variety of the garlic, transportation cost, distance to the market and current arrivals should also be considered before taking a selling decision.
  3. Particular, a high rate reported in a mandi with very low arrivals should not automatically be treated as the normal price that a farmer will receive for the entire quantity. Comparing the latest mandi price across nearby markets can provide a more practical basis for deciding where to sell.
