To modernize agriculture and improve farmers’ income, the central and state governments are running several progressive schemes. This technique, the soil is covered with a special plastic mulch, and crops are irrigated with a drip system that delivers water directly to the roots in controlled drops. This method helps save 50–60% of water, significantly improves the quality and quantity of the yield, and reduces weed growth.
A farmer from Sehore district used to rely on traditional farming methods, which required more water, labor, and cost but yielded limited produce. After learning about the Drip Mulching Scheme, he applied for it and adopted the technique in watermelon farming. The result was remarkable – higher than expected yields and minimal weed problems.
Encouraged by the success, he is now growing chili and brinjal using the same method, achieving better returns at a lower cost.
The farmer shared, “Earlier, I had to work harder for lesser profits, but now my same land gives me double the income. The Drip Mulching Scheme has changed the direction of my farming.” His success proves that when farmers become aware and take timely advantage of government schemes, agriculture becomes a profitable enterprise.
