Severe Cold Wave in UP: Dense Fog Disrupts Road and Rail Traffic

December has brought intense cold conditions to Uttar Pradesh, with a combination of cold wave and dense fog significantly increasing difficulties for residents. While biting temperatures are forcing people to stay indoors, thick fog has severely affected both road and rail traffic. Poor visibility is creating serious challenges for motorists, and train services have slowed considerably. The chill is being felt sharply across the region.

Rail Services Hit Hard by Dense Fog:

Severe cold and persistent fog are disrupting transportation across Uttar Pradesh. The impact is evident on both highways and railway networks, with several key trains running hours behind schedule. Unpredictable train movements have left passengers stranded at stations, facing long and uncomfortable waiting times.

Cold Intensifies in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj and Kanpur; Alert Issued:

Weather conditions have changed abruptly in Gorakhpur, where dense fog and rising cold have forced people to rely on bonfires at multiple locations to stay warm. In Prayagraj, the cold spell has peaked, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius. Cold wave conditions and heavy fog have badly affected daily life, and the weather department has indicated that relief from the cold is unlikely in the near term.
Kanpur has also been experiencing continuous dense fog and severe cold for the past three days. Residents are using bonfires from early morning until late at night to cope with the chill. The administration has issued an alert, urging people to remain cautious and drive at reduced speeds.

Temperature Likely to Drop Further in Delhi This Week:

Delhi is also expected to see a further dip in temperatures during the week. As the cold deepens, the city government has turned its attention to another winter concern—rising dust pollution caused by civic and road-related works. With wind speeds likely to remain low, between 0 and 10 kmph, the dispersion of pollutants may be limited, making dust-control and pollution management measures even more critical in the coming days.
