Big Relief for Farmers: Central Government Increases Paddy Procurement Target to 78 Lakh Metric Tonnes

In a major development for paddy farmers of Chhattisgarh, the Central Government has raised the paddy procurement target for the Kharif Marketing Season 2024–25 from 70 lakh metric tonnes to 78 lakh metric tonnes. This move is expected to bring significant financial relief and income growth opportunities for the state’s farming community.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi, for this decision. He called it recognition of farmers' hard work and a positive step toward strengthening the agricultural economy.

Economic Empowerment for Farmers:

The Chief Minister stated that the increase of 8 lakh metric tonnes in the procurement target reflects the Centre’s commitment to improving farmers’ financial stability and self-reliance. With this move, more farmers will now be able to sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), ensuring fair returns.

MSP and Bonus Support:

For the Kharif season 2024–25, the state government is offering an MSP of ₹2,300 per quintal for common paddy, along with an additional state bonus of ₹800 per quintal. This brings the total payout to ₹3,100 per quintal for common paddy. The MSP for Grade-A paddy has been fixed at ₹2,320 per quintal.

Well-Planned Procurement Strategy: The Chief Minister assured that the state government is fully prepared to conduct a transparent and efficient procurement process. Efforts are being made to ensure timely payments and a smooth procurement experience for farmers across the state. Strategic planning is in place to streamline operations and eliminate delays.

Trust and Commitment towards Farmers: The increase in procurement target is a strong indicator of the central government’s trust in the farmers of Chhattisgarh. CM Sai reiterated that his government is committed to the prosperity and dignity of the farming community. He emphasized that new schemes and initiatives will continue to be launched to improve the livelihoods of farmers and uplift the agricultural sector.
