Turmeric and Ginger Cultivation

If you're currently growing or planning to grow turmeric, ginger, or yam (ol), this is a golden opportunity for you. The Government of Bihar has launched a new subsidy scheme for the year 2025-26, offering substantial financial support to farmers cultivating these three spice crops. The online application process is now open, and eligible farmers are encouraged to apply without delay.

Up to ₹22,500 Subsidy for Turmeric Cultivation:

Under this scheme, farmers growing turmeric will receive a 50% subsidy on the unit cost of ₹45,000 per acre — amounting to ₹22,500 per acre. The scheme applies to a minimum cultivation area of 0.25 acre and a maximum of 2.00 acres. This is a great chance for farmers looking to boost income through high-value spice crops.

Ginger Growers to Get Up to ₹31,200 Subsidy:

For ginger cultivation, farmers will get ₹31,200 per acre, which is 50% of the total unit cost of ₹62,400 per acre. Here too, the area limit for availing subsidy is 0.25 acre to 2.00 acres. This could prove to be a game-changer for spice farmers in Bihar.

Over ₹1.40 Lakh Subsidy for Yam (Ol) Cultivation:

To promote yam (ol) cultivation, the government is offering a massive subsidy of ₹1,40,800 per acre, based on a unit cost of ₹2,81,600 per acre (50%). However, the maximum subsidized area is limited to 1.00 acre for this crop. For small and marginal farmers, this is an excellent opportunity to earn more from less land.

Required Documents for Application:

Farmers wishing to apply for this scheme must upload documents related to land ownership, such as:

  • Land Possession Certificate
  • Updated or 2-year-old Revenue Receipt
  • Online Receipt
  • Family Tree or Agreement Deed (if land is not clearly recorded in applicant's name)

If the applicant's name is not clearly mentioned in the land records, attaching a family tree document is mandatory.

Bank Account and Payment Details: Before applying, farmers are advised to ensure their bank account is linked with DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Subsidy payments will be made through DBT in Kind or DBT in Cash, processed via the CFMS system.

Beneficiary Selection Criteria: Beneficiaries will be selected according to the following reservation categories:

  • 78.537% General
  • 20% Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • 1.463% Scheduled Tribes (ST)

Additionally, 30% of the quota in each category is reserved for women, encouraging their active participation in the agricultural sector.

How to Apply? If you meet the eligibility criteria and agree with the scheme’s terms and conditions, you can apply online at the official government portal: horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
