In a major step towards modernizing agriculture and increasing farmers' income, the Bihar government is promoting the use of advanced technologies. As part of this initiative, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has announced the approval of a new scheme titled “Drone-Based Spraying of Pesticides and Liquid Fertilizers” for the financial year 2025–26.
Under this scheme, drone technology will be used across all 38 districts of the state to ensure fast and efficient spraying of agrochemicals over large areas in a short span of time.
Drone-based spraying is proving to be faster and more efficient compared to traditional methods. A single drone can spray pesticides or liquid fertilizers over one acre of land in just 10 to 12 minutes. Each flight can carry up to 10 liters of liquid, significantly saving time and reducing labor costs for farmers.
For FY 2025–26, the Bihar government has set an ambitious target of covering 56,050 acres under this drone-spraying initiative, which is more than double the 27,666 acres achieved in FY 2024–25. Farmers will get a subsidy of Rs 240 per acre i.e. 50 percent of the total cost. Each farmer can avail of this subsidy for up to 15 acres of land, with a maximum of two applications under the scheme.
Deputy CM Sinha stated that the initiative aims to empower farmers with cutting-edge tools, promoting sustainable and smart farming practices. The government believes that integrating modern technology will not only boost agricultural productivity but also strengthen the economic well-being and self-reliance of farmers across the state.
