Big Boost for MP Farmers: Focus on Modern Technology and High-Value Crops

MP Agriculture Roadmap 2026
MP Agriculture Roadmap 2026

New agricultural roadmap has been unveiled for farmers in the districts of Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, and Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. The plan aims to make farming more profitable, sustainable, and technology-driven. It emphasizes the use of improved seeds, efficient water management, crop diversification, and the adoption of modern farming practices to reduce input costs and enhance farmers’ incomes.

Focus on Profitable and Sustainable Farming:

The core objective of this roadmap is to help farmers earn more while spending less. It encourages blending traditional farming methods with modern techniques to improve overall productivity. Farmers are being advised to move away from single-crop dependency and adopt multi-cropping systems. Cultivating vegetables and fruits alongside staples like wheat and soybean can help reduce risks and create additional income streams.

Promotion of High-Value and Cash Crops:

The plan promotes the cultivation of vegetables such as tomato, onion, garlic, okra, and capsicum, along with fruits like pomegranate. It also recommends introducing high-value crops like dragon fruit and avocado, which have strong market demand and offer better price realization, thereby increasing farmers’ profitability.

Strong Push for Water and Soil Management:

With growing concerns over water scarcity, the roadmap stresses efficient water use through micro-irrigation techniques. Farmers are also encouraged to maintain soil health by using Soil Health Cards and mobile-based advisory tools to apply the right quantity of fertilizers. This approach will help lower costs while improving crop yields.

“Seed Villages” to Boost Productivity:

The government plans to develop “Seed Villages” in every block, where high-quality seeds will be produced and distributed to nearby farmers. This initiative is expected to increase crop productivity by up to 20 percent, directly contributing to higher farm incomes.

Access to Farm Machinery and Modern Facilities:

To address the challenge of expensive farm equipment, “Machine Banks” and Custom Hiring Centers will be set up. These facilities will allow farmers to rent modern machinery at affordable rates, ensuring timely agricultural operations and reducing both labor dependency and overall costs.

Strengthening Storage and Processing Infrastructure:

To minimize post-harvest losses, the plan includes expanding cold storage, pack houses, and cold chain infrastructure. Additionally, there is a strong focus on value addition through food processing, such as converting tomatoes into sauces and purees, enabling farmers to earn better returns on their produce.

Empowering Farmers through Collective Action:

The roadmap also aims to strengthen Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), encouraging farmers to work collectively. This will improve their bargaining power in the market and help them secure better prices, especially benefiting small and marginal farmers.
